About the Studio

Welcome to Tanner Smith Voice Studio, a professional space dedicated to helping singers ages 13 and up find their unique sound across classical, musical theatre, and pop genres.

Tanner Smith holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Tennessee and has experience teaching both university class voice and private voice lessons.

Lessons are taught in students' homes throughout the Des Moines metro area, providing convenient, personalized instruction in a comfortable environment. Online lessons are also available for students outside the service area.

Studio Policies

Payment Policy
Cancellation Policy
  • All lessons must be paid in advance (either per lesson or as a monthly package, as agreed upon).
  • Payment is due before the first lesson in a package or before a single scheduled lesson.
  • Lessons that are not paid in advance may be removed from the schedule.
  • At least 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule a lesson.
  • Cancellations made with more than 24 hours’ notice may be rescheduled, subject to availability.
  • Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice are considered late cancellations and will be charged in full.
  • In the event of severe weather, unsafe road conditions, or other circumstances that make travel unsafe, lessons may be moved online or rescheduled.
In-Home Lesson Policy
Practice & Preparation
  • Lessons are taught in the students' home within the Des Moines metro area.
  • Students should have a quiet space available for the lesson, free from excessive distractions whenever possible.
  • A piano or keyboard is helpful but not required.
  • For students under 18, a parent or guardian should be present in the home during the lesson.
  • The instructor reserves the right to discontinue lessons if the teaching environment is consistently unsafe or unsuitable for instruction.
  • Consistent practice between lessons is expected so that progress can be made.
  • Students should arrive with assigned music and materials, any tracks or scores needed, and a short list of questions or goals if helpful.
  • Lack of preparation will be discussed in a supportive way, but repeated patterns may lead to a conversation about scheduling and goals.
Respect & Professionalism
Communication
  • Students are expected to be ready at the scheduled lesson time and to provide a quiet, distraction-free environment whenever possible. Students, family members, and the instructor should treat one another and the lesson space with respect and professionalism.
  • If the instructor is delayed due to traffic, weather, or travel-related circumstances, every effort will be made to provide the full lesson time whenever possible.
